The Sunnah Way of Eating for a Healthy Life
Introduction
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) provided guidelines on eating that promote health, moderation, and gratitude.
1. Begin with Bismillah & Eat with the Right Hand
- The Prophet (ﷺ) said:“When one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allah.” (Tirmidhi)
2. Eat in Moderation
- The Prophet (ﷺ) advised:“The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach.” (Tirmidhi)
- Follow the 1/3rd rule: ⅓ for food, ⅓ for water, ⅓ for air.
3. Eat Wholesome & Natural Foods
- Dates, honey, olive oil, milk, barley, and pomegranates are highly recommended in Islam.
4. Avoid Wastefulness & Overeating
- Do not eat excessively or waste food.
- Share meals with others whenever possible.
